I had the same issue, and I simply respectfully declined an invitation (without getting into a philosophical/ethical debate) and was told that I make it very difficult for anyone to stand being around me with my craziness. This year my husband's family heard the same warning from me - "It's us or the turkey" and sadly, they chose the TURKEY instead of family time. We had planned a fantastic vegan meal. Funny but last year they said, "We'd eat vegan, sure. It's all about family." Apparently not. We however will sit down to a compassionate meal and be thankful together. Thank you for this essay!
