Human Breast Cheese, SIGG Sale, Tofu Tester & Sonic Fedora

• I’m trying to figure out what the hell all this infantile (haha!) hysteria about he human breast milk cheese is really about. Is it really being considered the worst idea ever? It it really illegal? C’mon. Really?

When comparing cow and human milk, let’s ask a few question. Which milk comes from a consenting individual? It’s not the cows’. Which milk typically has pus, blood, synthetic hormones, and feces in it? Nope, not the human milk. Which milk is designed by nature for human consumption? Not the cows’. Which milk is responsible for the veal industry and global warming? Not the human milk.

So why are people freaking out? Why is human breast milk any more gross than drinking the random tit milk from a cow stuck in a filthy factory farm up to its knees in feces? Let’s face it, people are so boob obsessed that’s all they can think about. Boobs! But if you had to push a calf aside, crawl under a cow and put an udder in your mouth and suck – you’d have a much different point of view. The anonymity and safety of the milk carton obscures the truth. The newness of the human milk illicits visions of adults sucking on pregnant tits, which is, apparently, very scary. That’s why I prefer almond, coconut, rice, and soy milk. Yum!

• Serious Eats’ Michael Natkin conducted a taste test of several store-bought tofu brands to bring you the least-bland winner of the taste test! I’ve never been a huge fan of plan old tofu, but according to Michael:

not all tofu is created equal. Some tofu has a mild, sweet beany flavor and a smooth consistency, while other brands have flavor defects and strange textures.

In Japan, it’s understood that top-shelf bean curd is an artisanal product made with only the best soybeans and spring water and processed with labor-intensive traditional techniques. That level of appreciation is unusual in the United States, but perhaps it will become more common as we realize that tofu is a versatile and delicious food in its own right, not a replacement for meat.”

Humans are the only animal in history to drink the milk from a species other than him/herself.
Milk, other than human type is poison for us humans. If it doesn’t exist in nature and the human is doing “it”…”it” deserves a good thinking about. The entire dairy industry at this time only exists for $ greed (certainly not for our health). Food is sacred…eat slowly.

The breast/udder milk debate is yet another result of merciless indoctrination. Nothing makes sense with animal usage yet people think the vegans are insane and don’t know what they’re talking about.

Since we’re on the topic of breastmilk, I find it troubling that people are offended by a breastfeeding woman. Nestle capitalized on this back in the 70s (I believe). Who wins money when one goes out and starts marketing away from what one’s body is meant to do? The corporations. Always has. Always will until someone knocks some sense into society.

    DB:

Love your site, but I wish you wouldn’t push that Sigg sale. I am not sure if you are aware, but Sigg lied to its eco and health-conscious customers by claiming that its bottles did not contain BPA. Of course, they did.

There are plenty of more ethical companies offering drinking bottles, including Klean Kanteen. I would much rather you push their products instead.

In important matters of health and eco-friendliness, Sigg cannot be trusted.

Wow, you seriously get me thinking with this !

I am what I call a “veganish-vegetarian”. I am very admirative of people who are vegan. I am Straightedge & vegetarian. But I do eat cheese … Being French it’s already hard enough to be vegetarian but I’ve been considering turning vegan as my next target for quite some years.
Cheese has always been an issue for me. I love it.
But you might have given me just the right amount of grossiness and details I needed.
    Thank you.

And oh my ! These fedoras rock !

This whole issue with cow milk and breast milk is so sad. The sight of a woman breastfeeding her child has to be one of the most beautiful things to experience in the world, because it is perfectly normal, natural and a perfect expression of mother bonding with her child..

I don’t see how you can compare the two…people are just disturbed..

Natkin has a wonderful (in spite of being ovo/lacto, unfortunately) blog as well, with many vegan/veganisable recipes: http://herbivoracious.com/

as for the human/bovine breast issue – i’ve actually had to explain to people that mammals make milk for their children, not willy nilly. where are all the randomly lactating childless women that provide them with this idea? colour me baffled!
