I need this book to help show my husband what really is in those awful pork pies and sausage rolls he loves so much, he won’t take my word for it but he may be willing to listen to the word of a fellow musician. Sometimes it is all too easy to pick up convenience food and not to think about what it may be made of, after all it’s not clearly shown in the ingredients listing!

Please choose me, I have spent a long time trying to find the best way to explain this to my husband and finally I think this book is just the thing!

I will be graduating from college this May and I don’t know what I’m going to do next! A degree in Graphic Design means I could end up working for any number of large corporations – promoting god-knows-what. I have pondered and pondered and ultimately come to the conclusion that I need to use my powers for good (promoting veganism) and not evil (selling people stuff-stuff they definitely don’t need). I actually just saw Dan Piraro give a talk last night (author of Bizarro and amazing advocate for veganism) “Comedy, Karma and Kale” – It was a good reminder that if I really set out to do it I could make a living doing something I love and care about. I would absolutely love to add this book to my bookshelf of amazing vegan knowledge to empower myself when I am constantly defending my diet, excuse me, LIFESTYLE- on a day to day basis and as ammunition in the ass-kicking vegan powered career I am about to embark on! Plus, I have to start paying off student loans! Help!

PS: Just an FYI – You and a laundry list of other amazing vegan bloggers are also an inspiration to me when I think about my future career! Starting up my own blog is definitely on my list of to-do’s. So, THANK YOU!

Simply put, I need more Moby wisdom.
Back in the “old days” albums had these crazy things called liner notes and lyrics in them. The day I bought Moby’s album “Everything is Wrong”, I sat down to flip through the liner notes and what I found within was something which truly inspired me to take being veg to the next level. I typed the entire thing out and made copies to give to everyone I knew. I posted a copy on my desk at work and still have it hanging next to my computer in my home office. If this book is anything like this first essay (so to speak), i know it will be powerful and life altering once again.

      Dearest Discerning Brute,

I would love to be the proud winner of Gristle because I think Moby is such an excellent example of vegan and animal rights advocacy. He makes his points and stands his ground in such a concise, well-spoken way and I feel like he tries to deliver a viable, positive alternative for each of his criticisms – which becomes difficult for even the harshest critic to refute.

Although examining food systems and eating animals has been a hot topic in the cultural zeitgeist recently, I have a feeling that Moby and Minyun Park have fresh, personal perspectives on the subject and that this book will become a staple in animal rights discussions and critiques of food systems.

Personally, I am a 21 year old Environmental Science and Policy major who has been a vegan for 5 years and I would love to win a copy of this book so I could read it and talk all of my friends into reading it, also.

      Love,
      Elise

I heard Jasmin talking about the book and launch party on Our Hen House and while I am not too thrilled about the inclusion of a chapter on “happy meat,” and despite Jasmin’s trials at the party, I would still love to read this.

I am a 49 year old with high cholesterol on the verge of a middle age crisis. I’m planning to eat a double cheeseburger tonight. Please send me the book at your earliest convenience.

i need this book to continue my self-education on nutrition, and to reinforce my decision to be a vegan. i pass this information on daily to my friends and, more importantly, to my 6 year old, because it is hard for her palate to understand why i have changed our shopping and eating habits. i’m hoping as she grows, she’ll understand more and more, and pass information on to her peers, and they’ll tell two friends, and so on and so on and so on.

As a vegan and a chef and a restaurant owner I am privileged to be able to work with “transitioning” clients all the time. Unfortunately there are an equal number of “not never no how” clients that I would love to have frank discussions about factory farming. My dream is to be able to go completely vegan in our small bistro but I have not built up the client base to support it… yet….so being educated as to all the ‘whys’ of veganism is my best defense to all the complacent carnivore ‘why nots.’ I also teach a vegan cooking class for transitions and have a revolving book library for them to borrow from so they can explore without a huge immediate expense, this book would make a lovely addition.

I live in a small, somewhat liberal-leaning town in the midst of conservative agribusiness. One more arrow in my vegan advocacy quiver can only help. And trust me: I need all the help I can get. Besides, I like to read.

I need this book because I’m a transitioning meat addict. I go through life using logic as my main rudder. I started teaching yoga not too long ago and a part of that is educating my clients to transition in a meat free diet – and make a good case for my clients. Good enough that they themselves are finding it fairly easy, while I’m lagging behind. I was on your site not long ago and found the video where you chatted with Tim Gunn and it offered me a paradigm shift: vegan clothes only from now on. I’m a product of the late 90′s and 2000′s who doesn’t respond to the antiquated arguments based on guilt: I want facts and systems that show why it’s better for everyone that these industries stop operating (environmental, financial and healthful). I’m interested in a dialogue that is a sociological conversation rather than an emotional one. This is why I read your site, this is why I’m excited for “Meat is for Pussies” and why I want this book. Educate me! Keep changing my world! And then aide me in my process of educating others. I was able to go straight to vegan clothes with one conversation, but I haven’t found that yet for eating. Will this be the one?

  • Beverly

As a broke college student, I need this book to help fire back at people who question my veganism. The more information I have to spread the news, the better. And it doesn’t hurt that Moby edited the book either.

  • Weezie

Amber! Do you have a website for your meatless monday campaign in DC? I’m in DC as well and would love to be in touch with you!

  • http://phillipeb.blogspot.com/ phillipe bojorquez

I would love to read this book. I have been a vegan for 7 years and after a while it is good to check back in to re-educate yourself on the current state of animal agriculture, socialization and sexualization of meat consumption, ect. Also i have not updated my blog in a long time it would be good to gather new stimuli to write about.

Thank you for offering this up!

  • J

im a kiwi and am studying the dairy industry for an art project at university. Im sure this book would open my eyes and mind and maybe point to where our farming industry is headed in the future. Also am disgusted by factory farming and have been vegetarian in the past, may become one again after reading this book!!

Library Thing tells me that I own 3336 books; clearly, I don’t have enough! Plus, hello, vegan Moby-listener over here!

  • http://www.gastronomista.com Daphne Duquesne

I’ve been a vegetarian, a vegan, and a meat-eating fur-wearer. You can never get enough information about our food processing systems, and this book looks like a great additional source for the library besides “Eating Animals” and all of Pollan’s books.

I’m the editor of http://www.gastronomista.com, a blog about women, food, flesh, art and design, and we really love your site. We should find a way to work together somehow!

  • Weezie

This is amazing! I heard about this book in VegNews and have been dying to read it ever since. I totally need this book to help continue my self-education of this horrific industry. I’ve been vegan for almost three years now and have slowly been making progress with my family and a ton of friends : ) I’ve also started a small meet-up group at work for co-workers who continually ask me how to be healthier…it’s so fun and I would love to be able to let everyone pass this book around. Thank you so much!

  • VersuteVegan

I need this book to help educate my sister and her family (6 people w/a 7th on the way) about factory farming and the food we eat. I gave her a copy of Food, Inc. and she’s reduced the meat consumption in her family by a significant % and just needs a little more convincing.

  • Nicholas

I need this book, because I am new to veganism and this book would be a great way to get more educated on animal rights and veganism.

  • amy lynn

i need this book so i can highlight my favorite parts, write comments in the margin and leave it at brooklyn meat hook.

  • stacey

any information is good information, especially on this subject. i like to keep up to date on all of the best arguments for veganism, so as to educate and influence those who cross my path.

i also like to win things. :)

  • http://a-soy-bean.blogspot.com/ ASB

I need this book as a tool in my ongoing effort to turn my omnivorous Dad vegan.

  • Amber

I need this book because, as a “hobby” I’ve taken on the project of making the entire city of DC go meat free on Mondays and I’m about to have a nervous breakdown. Also because a stupid boy just took a giant shit all over my lovely spring day. I need something nice to happen to get me, and my awesome project of introducing the entire Capitol to veganism, back on track.

  • http://twitter.com/nickbabs Nick Babiarz

I read about this last week and was extremely intrigued! I’m a vegetarian leaning vegan and I need something to push me all the way. Huge fan of the site, too.
