Eating Animals by

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Like many young Americans, Jonathan Safran Foer spent much of his teenage and college years oscillating between enthusiastic carnivore and occasional vegetarian. As he became a husband, and then a father, the moral dimensions of eating became increasingly important to him. Faced with the prospect of being unable to explain why we eat some animals and not others, Foer set out to explore the origins of many eating traditions and the fictions involved with creating them

  • – No P.O. Boxes, please.

Paperback will allow me to carry this around with me and when people notice it as I read it on the metro, in airports, at the gym, it can act as a conversation starter and I can tell them why being vegan is so important.

This is a really compelling book, and one I would recommend to anyone sitting on the carnivore/veggie fence and wondering what their next step should be. Foer’s conclusion is that we should THINK before we eat, and understand the forces, cultural and otherwise, that make us reach for that head of lettuce or Big Mac next time we’re hungry.

i am trying to load up on as much info as possible, so i can always be ready to share it with my carnivore friends and family. i especially want reliable info so i can educate my 6-year-old daughter on why mommy chose to be vegan.

I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while now, especially as I keep toying with the idea of eating meat again for exactly the reason dealt with (and dismissed) in your interview with Mike Mahler yesterday (19 Aug). Thanks for that, too!
